Best Summer Foods for Oral Health
Posted on 07/08/2020

Summer is the perfect time to relax and enjoy some sunshine. However, there can be a lot of sugary temptations during the summer months. MaconSmiles encourages you to indulge in a treat once and while, but consume mostly healthy foods that are also great for your oral health. Our cosmetic dentist and staff have put together a list of great foods to enjoy this summer!

Healthy Foods for Your Teeth

Healthy Foods for Your Teeth

Our family and kids dentist recommends the following foods for the entire family.

Cheese: Cheese contains high amounts of calcium which is necessary for strong teeth and jawbones. Cheese is a great summer food to enjoy as a snack or with a meal and it’s incredibly versatile.

Bananas: Bananas have tons of dental health benefits including high levels of potassium and calcium. Bananas are a great on-the-go summer snack or a quick addition to any smoothie.

Oranges: Oranges are high in vitamin C and antioxidants which help fend off gingivitis and other oral infections. Oranges are also an easy snack on-the-go at the beach or as a boost to a quick breakfast smoothie.

Salmon: Salmon is high in vitamin D which allows our bodies to process calcium effectively. Salmon is also a great source of omega-3 fatty acids which are healthy fats and beneficial for our overall health. Instead of always having a burger on the grill this summer, try a salmon filet!

Kale: Kale and all leafy greens are excellent for your overall health and your oral health as well. Kale is high in vitamin K which is great for supporting bone growth (including your teeth!) and the immune system. Try a caesar salad with kale this summer for a nutritious meal.

Carrots: Carrots are full of nutritious vitamins and minerals. They also act as a mini-edible toothbrush. As you chew through a raw carrot, your teeth will receive a scrubbing similar to brushing your teeth. Carrots help fight against plaque build up, strengthen your enamel and prevent bad breath!

Apples: Similar to carrots, apples are considered “nature’s toothbrush.” Apples contain lots of vitamins and minerals to support your overall health and immune system. They also help keep your mouth clean and your teeth strong.
