Get Involved With The Macon Community!

At MaconSmiles we care about giving back to the community that serves us. As your local Macon family dentistry, we do our best to create beautiful and healthy smiles for our patients in Macon and the surrounding areas of Forsyth and Gray. In addition, we believe that doing our part in servicing the community is just as important. We take pride in participating in some of the events that help to create a better, more thriving place for all of us to live. Below we put together a list of some of the events and programs that are dear to our hearts.

We love giving back to the community and supporting our troops overseas! This Halloween, earn money through our Halloween Candy Buy Back initiative! On November 1st through November 2nd, bring your unopened Halloween Candy to our Macon office and receive $1 for each pound wrapped candy! ALL candy donations will be shipped to our troops overseas through Operation Shoebox.

Riverside Optimist Club's Annual Jr. Olympics

On April 29th, 2017, Dr. Shah spent the day at Thompson Stadium on Shurling Drive volunteering at the 38th Annual Jr. Olympics. We loved being a part of such a wonderful event and can't wait to participate again next year! Thank you to the amazing members of Riverside Optimist Club.

Sonny Carter Elementary School Visit

On March 10th, 2017, our staff members Shasta, Leslie and Courtney went to visit Sonny Carter Elementary School to talk to the kindergarten class about the importance of dental hygiene. The kids had a blast asking questions and even practicing brushing on our dental dragon named Drake! The kids got a goodie bag filled with lots of dental items and a dental coloring book. Can't wait to do it again next year!

2016 Halloween Candy Buyback

Halloween Candy Buy Back

Since 2009 we have participated in the Halloween Candy Buy Back program. Each year, right after Halloween, we buy back candy from Middle Georgia Children and ship the candy to Operation Gratitude.

Children bringing in their unopened candy receive:

  • $1 per pound of candy
  • a flashing Firefly toothbrush
  • coupons to local restaurants

Central High School JR ROTC members come every year and assist the children in making cards for the troops. Additionally, the Riverside Optimist Club, whose motto is “Friend of Youth”, participates every year.

The candy, along with letters to the troops, is then shipped to Operation Gratitude, which sends thousands of care packages for US Troops serving overseas.

It’s a great way to give back AND get candy “off the streets”. To learn more about the Halloween Candy Buy Back program, go to: and

Rooms From the Heart

Our March fundraiser is very special to our MaconSmiles family. Proceeds from our new "LIKES" on our MaconSmiles Facebook page go to Rooms From the Heart, a volunteer organization that redecorates the bedrooms of critically or terminally ill children. Samantha, the daughter of our dental assistant Marie, was diagnosed with cancer in early 2013. This wonderful organization decorated Samantha's bedroom in the theme of her choice, with special consideration for needs related to her illness. They were able to create a unique, cheerful & comforting environment for her and her sister Cheyenne.

Dr. Shah has been involved with them ever since and made another donation to Rooms From the Heart for their Annual Fairy Tale Ball this year. We are very proud to give back to an organization that gives so much to our community. You can learn more about Rooms From the Heart at

Covenant Care

At MaconSmiles we care a great deal about the community we serve. We love when our friends and patients come together to support causes that are near and dear to us. Our fundraiser in May raised $151.00 for Covenant Care Services 5th Annual 5k Ridge Run. This wonderful organization provides adoptive services to pregnant women and adoptive families.
